Stretching from Troia in Alentejo to the Algarve, this is one of Europe's best-preserved coastal areas with golden sandy beaches such as Galé, Melides and Santo André set against an undeveloped natural backdrop. The Alentejo’s flat and rolling landscape is ideal for easy and moderate walking and the mountains provide more challenging routes.

Alentejo is also filled with ancient history and on every corner you can discover archeological sites of interest. The ruins of Pisões, a Roman Villa very near Beja, contain two-thousand-year-old mosaics, and are a good example of Alentejo's ancestral rural tradition.

Finally if you olike golf the best place for a few rounds in Alentjo is the Ammaia golf course that lies in the valley directly below the famous medieval village of Marvão on the border between Portugal and Spain.
